The first thing we should then explain to you is that a cement screed or anhydrite floor that most floors in homes are made of are subject to action. The floors expand when heated (by the sun and underfloor heating, for example) and shrink again when they cool down. Because the floors are applied on hollow-core slabs, stresses will cause cracks to appear in your screed, which will continue into beautiful new floors. Therefore, through proper preparation, we at next level want these cracks to be present before the screed is laid. By following start-up and heating protocols, you can prevent a lot. However, there is never a guarantee; a screed can always develop cracks that become visible in the cast floor.

Next Level Flooring warns you about this in advance, it is a remains a risk

There are several types of cast floors cementitious/polyurethane and epoxy are the most common in these.

A cement-bound casting floor is a floor consisting of cement/sand/water or a paste of cement and latex or acrylic. Cement-bound floors are rigid floors, so this type of floor cannot absorb any movement from the subfloor. A crack in the screed will continue 1:1 in the cement-bound screed.

Therefore, in a cement-based screed, a crack is not a defect, it is part of the look.

Cast floors come in different price ranges, there are aromatic floors (explanation follows) and partially or fully UV-resistant floors often referred to as semi-aliphatic or fully aliphatic.

An aromatic casting floor is an epoxy or polyurethane casting floor that consists of an a and b component The a component is the polyurethane and the b component is a resin that causes the polyurethane to harden into a solid mass. In an aromatic self-levelling screed, the b component is brown in colour and this floor will brown strongly when UV-loaded, not really desirable, which is why this floor is not sold by next level. Due to their low purchase price, these floors are often used as an intermediate layer, with a UV-resistant colour coating being applied as a final layer. A floor that is also offered by next level because the floor is perfect for use as a bedroom floor or for large projects where price is important.

An aliphatic cast floor is a cast floor where the b component has been refined into a transparent resin, these floors are therefore UV resistant and will not discolour in sunlight.

A semi-alliphatic floor will yellow slightly but not brown like an aromatic floor.

Do UV-resistant floors then not discolour, as the description says no not by Uv-radiation, however, the coating used to protect the cast floor can yellow slightly over time through use, you are talking about mechanical discolouration.

Also, content fabrics from rugs can shed light on the floor but also acids and ink a plasticisers such as rubber can stain the floor.

Next level floors uses the latest coating, it has the highest chemical resistance available at the moment, but our advice is still to keep you floor free of the substances mentioned above (also read the guidelines we send along with the quote).

A cheaper screed is not necessarily a worse floor, of course a low price will come from somewhere. Low overheads and a low advertising budget are the texts often used then, and yes of course this will be able to partly keep the price low.

But what happens more often is that less material is simply used, a good screed consists of at least 4 layers namely a primer a scraping layer and then the polyurethane and the coating, 80% of floors are laid in this composition.

So where is the difference? Does your screed supplier indicate on the quote how much material, i.e. KG, he uses (we usually already know the answer NO) the material for a screed is bought in KG you can roll the scraper layer/primer with a roller and use that to seal the cement screed just fine or an epoxy paste with a squeegee to seal the floor. Use 200 grams with a purchase value of less than 1.50. The manufacturer allows you to use 2.4 kg per m2 of polyurethane and then 100 grams of ultra-matt coating and from above you have a nice smooth cast floor.

At next level, you see or choose the desired module to compose the self-levelling cast floor to your own liking. More expensive no not necessarily also the cast floor described above is sold by us, only for the actual price and as a standard cast floor.

A cheap floor bad? No it isn’t but all value for money and that also counts for cast floors.

Daily
We recommend dusting the floor as often as necessary with a damp microfibre cloth or a hoover with a parquet brush or sweeping with a soft broom.

Dweilen
Furthermore, once a week, in case of light soiling, you can thoroughly wipe the floor with a slightly damp microfibre cloth. If necessary, add PU Cleaner.
Stain removal

When staining items, it is important to act quickly. First remove the excess moisture/stain-causing material. First try to remove the stain with clean water only, if that does not work you can then try to remove the stain with the Clean and strip.

If you do this in time, there is usually nothing left of the stain. Should some still show, use the stain and away box ( included in the starter kit.

Over time, a kind of film layer of old dirt and detergent may form. This sometimes seems very difficult to remove, but nothing could be further from the truth!

It’s time for an intensive cleansing! This consists of 3 steps.

1. Cleaning the floor.
Wet the floor well and scrub everything well off the floor. Use the Clean and strip to better dissolve the dirt.

2. Let the Clean and strip do its job for a while.
Should the floor be dry by now, wet it thoroughly again for the final step!

3. Get the moisture off the floor!
Remove the moisture from the floor using a water vacuum cleaner. This will not only suck the moisture from the floor, but also the dirt and detergent.

All the tools you need to maintain your floor and remove stains. All packed in a handy and easy to store bucket!
Besides the well-known cleaning agents for weekly and periodic cleaning, this package also has a stain set. This set is a combination of 3 remedies. Each remedy is suitable for a different kind of stain! On the top of the bucket, you can find which stain you have, and which remedy you can use to remove it.
A real “must have” in case of an accident!

Felts

Protect your floor from scratches with felt pads under all your furniture that makes contact with your floor. Lift objects and don’t move them. The best tested felts are those from ScratchNoMore.

Cleaning mat
By installing a walk-off mat at your entrance, you ensure that 90% of dirt does not get onto your floor. The larger your doormat, the less dirt will end up on your floor.

Office chair

Fit your office chairs (and all other rolling chairs/cabinets) with castors for hard floor surfaces. You can also find these casters at ScratchNoMore.

Shoe stripes
Shoe marks and streaks from rubber wheels are easy to remove with moisture and a microfibre cloth. Don’t leave the stripes for too long, the rubber may soak into the floor.

Rugs

If you plan to purchase a rug first check the specifications to see if it is suitable for a cast floor. If in doubt, we recommend placing white felt under the rug. You can also consult Next Level Flooring.

Do not use scouring sponges, brushes, soap and chlorine, etc. This may damage the top layer of the cast floor.
